THE ART OF FLAME
by Maedron, First Acolyte of the Cabal

2
A thick, black tome, this book is covered in plenty of dust, having obviously
been in disuse for some time.

"Fire is the crucible of Life. Before it, all impurities are burned away. All
that remains is a pure, unclouded will. A Sorcerer should revel in this and
know that power is his servant. With diligence, he can summon daemons to do his
bidding, and banish them with mere words."

The *summoning of daemons* is a difficult process, and not one to be undertaken
lightly. Many young *Acolytes* have been consumed in the process, and even some
former Masters of the Enclave have been of the opinion that *daemon summoning*
is best left for those who have lived a full life.

The summoning itself can be performed with sufficient will and the spell /Kal
Flam Corp Xen/. Take heed! While this alone is indeed enough to bring forth a
daemon, it will not be pleased at the disturbance. Proper defences must be
enacted if the *Sorcerer* wishes to live long enough to witness his success.

The daemon's realm is one of *fire*, and thus it is most naturally combatted
with *cold*. Any such spell will do, as it is merely to aid the primary
defence.

In order to block the daemon's attacks, one should consider their *essence*. The
summoning spell performs the necessary binding, providing sufficient protection
against any physical attacks, but the daemon's main way of battle lies in its
control of fire. The spell *Armor of Flames* has been designed especially to
combat magical fire, and when used in combination with a cold-producing spell,
may be strong enough to defend against the daemon's *fiery fury*.

Note, however, that the daemon is subtle and sly: if it notices a lapse in the
Sorcerer's defences it is likely to attempt a quick *kill*. For these cases, a
*quick* defence is required, which Armor of Flames does not provide, being
*slow* to cast.

The *Extinguish* spell may be sufficient to douse the flames of *imps*, but a
*true daemon* ignores such *cantrips* completely. It is best left to its
original purpose.

The most important spell when dealing with daemons is that of *banishment*: /An
Flam Corp Xen/ attempts to force a Daemon to return to the plane of Fire, from
which it was summoned. Although not always successful, this is a Sorcerer's
best defence against these beasts.

Finally, *never* leave a daemon unguarded. If you are alone, be sure to banish
it before leaving its presence, for it will surely attempt to strike at you
whilst your back is turned.
